Frequently asked questions

What does it mean that My Tallow House is a faith-based business?

It doesn't mean a cross in the logo or a Bible verse in every caption. It means this business operates on the conviction that everything entrusted to me — the sourcing, the ingredients, the customers, the craft — belongs to God. I am a steward, not an owner. That distinction changes how every decision gets made.

A steward doesn't cut corners when no one is watching, because she understands she's always accountable to Someone regardless of whether a customer notices. That's why I won't lie on a label, exaggerate what a product does, or use a cheaper ingredient to protect a margin. I'll tell you plainly what tallow can and cannot do, even when the market rewards bigger promises. These aren't brand values. They're non-negotiable — because I'm not managing my business. I'm managing His.

Any woman who wants clean, honest skincare is welcome here, regardless of what she believes. You may not share my faith and still walk away thinking: I don't know why she operates this way, but I trust her. That trust is the whole point.

What makes your products different from other tallow brands?

Most tallow brands buy pre-rendered tallow in bulk. We source our suet from a local butcher that obtains all their suet from local ranches in and around Hood County, Texas. We render it ourselves using a combination of wet and dry rendering methods. This lets us control quality and purity from start to finish.

We also use only organic, minimally processed oils as carriers — no industrially processed seed oils, no shortcuts.

Where do you source your tallow?

We partner with a local butcher that obtains all their suet from local ranches in and around Hood County, Texas. The cattle are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished — no hormones, no grain, no shortcuts. We believe great skin starts at the source, which is why we never use pre-rendered bulk tallow from commercial suppliers like most competitors do.

What if my tallow melts during shipping?

Tallow is a natural fat — it responds to heat. We are in Texas, so we take precautions: during summer months, we ship your tallow frozen and with ice packs. That said, once the package leaves our facility, we cannot control temperatures in transit or at your location.

If your balm arrives soft or melted, it is still completely safe and effective to use. Simply place it in the fridge or freezer to re-solidify. Texture may change; quality does not.

We do not accept returns on melted products.

Why does your soap smell so subtle?

That's intentional. The saponification process — the chemical reaction that turns oils into soap — destroys most natural scents. To get a strong scent that survives this process, most soap makers use synthetic fragrance oils, which are chemical cocktails with undisclosed formulas. Some use large quantities of essential oils to achieve a potent natural scent — but that comes at a significant cost, which is typically passed on to you.

We use 100% certified organic essential oils at an honest quantity. The trade-off is a milder scent, but your body isn't absorbing a mystery chemical blend and you're not paying a premium for fragrance intensity. Your skin is your largest organ. What goes on it goes into it.

One Exception: Our Vanilla Bean body bar uses a high-quality fragrance oil. Unfortunately, it is not possible to make true vanilla essential oil (and any you find on the internet is not being honest). In order to create this very popular product in a way that is not cost-prohibitive, we use a high quality fragrance oil for this product ONLY. We will always tell you when we make an exception.

Do you ship outside the United States?

Not at this time. We currently ship within the US only via USPS standard and priority shipping. Standard delivery is typically 3–7 business days; priority is 1–3 business days. Orders of $100 or more (before tax and shipping) qualify for free standard shipping.

What is your return policy?

We do not accept returns or exchanges once an order has shipped. Skincare is a personal-use product — returned items cannot be restocked or resold, and this policy protects the integrity of every product for every customer.

If your order arrives damaged or you received the wrong item, email us at info@mytallowhouse.com within 7 days of delivery with photos of the product, packaging, and shipping label. We will make it right.

Can I cancel my order?

Orders can be canceled within 24 hours of purchase, provided they have not already been processed or shipped. Contact us immediately at info@mytallowhouse.com with your order number.

Once an order has shipped, it cannot be canceled. Approved cancellations receive a full refund to the original payment method.
